Seb’s Book Review

The Boys in the Dress
By David Walliams

This book is about a boy called Dennis who is always getting detention at school because he is very naughty!
Once when he is in detention he meets a girl called Lisa who is also naughty and they become friends. After detention Dennis goes to Lisa’s house where she gets him to put on one of her dresses!
Dennis goes into school wearing a dress, a wig and make up. He pretends to be Lisa’s penpal called Denise. Nobody realises that he is really Dennis!
This story is very funny and makes you want to keep reading. Dennis is my favourite character.
Everyone should read this book.
I give it 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Daniel’s Book Review

This is an extract from Daniel’s review; to read the rest have a look in the Year 3 corridor.

Book Review of The Famous Five – Five on a Treasure Island by Enid Blyton.

This book is all about 4 children called George, who is a girl called Georgina but would like to be a boy, Julian, Dick and Anne and a dog named Timothy who is also sometimes called Tim.

The book starts with 2 brothers called Julian and Dick and their sister Anne being sent to have a holiday with an auntie, uncle and cousin at the seaside in the south of England (they have never met them before) for 3 weeks while their parents go on holiday to Scotland.

The story follows their adventures on Kerrin island as the children explore a shipwreck and hunt for treasure. When their Uncle Quentin decides to sell the island the race is on to find the gold ingots before the villains take it for themselves!

I really enjoyed this book. I found it fun and exciting. I want to read other Famous Five books and read all about their adventures.

Gangsta Granny by David Walliams

Story

This book is about Ben (11 years old) who goes to stay with his granny who he thinks is boring as she pays scrabble and eats cabbage soup.

However he soon discovers his granny is an international jewel thief who wants to steal the Crown jewels! But are they caught?

Favourite Character

My favourite character was Ben because he changed from thinking his granny was boring to wanting to steal the crown jewels with her.

(although I loved his granny when she abseiled down the hospital).

Would I change anything?

Yes, I did not like it when Granny had to go to hospital because she had cancer. There were sad parts to the book, but the rest of it was a really fun read.

Would I recommend it to my friends? Yes.

I would give this book 4 and a half stars out of 5.

The Amazing Story of Leo Messi- The Flea by Michael Part

I really enjoyed reading this book about the world’s greatest footballer Lionel Messi.

This story is about a very good footballer called Lionel Messi and in this book he travels from Argentina to Spain and plays for FC Barcelona. It starts off when Lionel Messi kicked a ball when he was 5 years old  to scoring his first goal on the Camp Nou pitch in Barcelona.  Lionel Messi went to Barcelona when he was 13 years old with his dad and he became homesick. It tells us about his training and determination to become a great footballer.

Anyone who enjoys football will love reading this book.

ILLUSTRATED CLASSICS (abridged versions)

Robinson Crusoe

Robin Hood

The Three Musketeers

Treasure Island

Oliver Twist

Over the holidays I read 5 classics made into shortened stories. The book I enjoyed the most was Robinson Crusoe because I liked it when he gets stranded on an island. The story tells how he goes on a sailing adventure and ends up shipwrecked on a deserted island after a terrible storm. We learn about how he lives without a family and survives. My favourite character is Friday because he is a brave and kind man. He gets captured on the island and Robinson Crusoe saves him. I think the character Robinson Crusoe is like Stig of the Dump because he makes things out of nature to survive and Stig uses garbage to create things useful for him. Robinson Crusoe has 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 parrot and lots of goats!

Overall I would give this book 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dirty Bertie – BURP! by Dylan

David Roberts / Alan MacDonald

Dirty Bertie has lots of bad habits like scaring girls, burping and eating food off the floor. Bertie is the only one in his school who likes the school dinners but when Miss Beansprout the new dinner lady starts to make them eat vegetables, Bertie tells his friends to go on strike. When the head teacher Miss Skinner finds maggots in her salad (put there by Bertie) the old cook Mrs Mould returns!
Whiffer is Bertie’s smelly dog and also gets him into trouble at dog training classes, but the teacher ends up giving him a certificate so that he doesn’t come back.
I like this book because its very funny and fun to read.

How to be a pirate by Cressida Cowell

This book is about a boy and his friends trying to learn how to be a pirate. They all live on the island of Berk. I like the book a lot. I find it funny because the characters have names like  Buggy  Bum, Hiccup, Fish Legs, Snot Lout, Tough Nut and Rough Nut. I highly recommend this book for kids because it is funny.

Temple Run by Chase Wilder

I loved this book because it was exciting and funny. I just couldn’t put the book down.  It is about adventures and learning about who the characters are. You can choose from 3 story lines and decide which characters to explore with.  I strongly recommend this book for other children.

Willow Farm by Enid Blyton

I did not like reading this book because I had no interest in it. It was all about a bunch of children on a farm yard called Willow Farm. They all have animal pets. They have a friend who is called the Wild Man. The book wasn’t exciting and I didn’t finish it.
