World of Work

This week in our English lessons we have continued to read The Butterfly Lion; following the adventures of Bertie and Millie as they leave school. The boys then began to think about the paths they might follow as they grow up; we challenged them to create an A-Z of jobs and then we began to think about the skills needed for individual ones. Mrs Owens gave a talk about her son who has recently joined the navy. We focused on education and training requirements including fitness as well as personal skills such as self organisation and punctuality, problem solving, ability to work as a part of a team and to listen and follow orders.

Next week the boys have been asked to bring in some research about a job they are interested in. They will share their knowledge with the class and then we will use their work to create a careers book for each class library.

In Maths, the boys have continued to develop their knowledge of fractions and understanding of word problems.

In RE, we have thought about our personality traits; are we the same at home and at school?

In  Geography, the boys have created floor plans of their bedrooms, taking care to think about scale and layout.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you Mr Ozer!

Year 3 were excited to listen to Mr Ozer share his passion for Michael Jackson this morning; I think the King of Pop and Rock has a few more fans now! It was a fascinating talk and it was thrilling to see one of the icon’s famous Fedora hats; thank you for trusting us with such precious memorabilia!

Well done Y3!

Congratulations to all the boys who took part in last night’s Junior Concert. They performed so well and the atmosphere was amazing!

This week we have continued to read The Butterfly Lion and have now completed Chapter 7. We have learnt how to use apostrophes to show possession.

In Maths we have looked at fractions of shape and number.

Next week we will continue reading Chapter 8 and 9 of The Butterfly Lion. In Maths we will continue to look at fractions and problem solving.

Have a great weekend!

Remembrance Day

This morning the boys commemorated Remembrance Day in a special assembly. We listened to the Last Post and we observed the two minute silence at 11.00am.

In English and R.E. this week we have focused on Remembrance Day and the boys have written Acrostic Poems and posters detailing the history behind this day. They have also designed their own medals for acts of bravery and kindness.

In Maths we have continued working on multiplication and we have moved on to the formal method. Next week we will be focusing on fractions; beginning with fractions of whole numbers.

Rehearsals are underway for the Junior Concert which will be held next Thursday and we look forward to seeing many of you there.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome back!

We hope you had restful half term holiday. The boys have been working very hard this week.

In Maths we have looked at how we can multiply 2 or more digits by 2 or more digits. We have partitioned numbers and used the grid method to help us solve the problems. We have begun to look at the formal method of multiplication in readiness for more work on this concept next week.

In Science we have begun out topic focus which is teeth. This week we have looked at animal teeth.

Our English focus has been writing about our visit to the Verulamium before half term. Next week we will be focusing on Remembrance both in our English and R.E. lessons.

Have a great weekend!
